The United States is providing more humanitarian aid to Ethiopians displaced by conflict facing severe food insecurity, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) said on Tuesday.
“Today, the United States announced an additional 170 million dollars in humanitarian assistance to support the people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Many of the victims who left their homes because of escalating conflict or natural disaster and who are facing severe food insecurity as a result.
“About 8.5 million Ethiopians are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance because of insecurity and large-scale displacement.
“The package will try to address needs such as nutrition, life-saving medical care, and sanitation,’’ the release said.
According to the release, the additional funding brings the total U.S. aid contribution in Ethiopia to over 802 million dollars since 2016.
U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Michael Raynor in the release said it was up to all Ethiopians to work together to implement reforms and end the ethnic violence.
