La patronne du PAM en tournée officielle en Zambie

Directrice exécutive du Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM), Ertharin Cousin
Ertharin Cousin, Directrice exécutive du Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM)

La directrice exécutive du Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM), Ertharin Cousin, est arrivée ce jeudi dans le pays pour une visite officielle de quatre jours en Zambie.

Sa visite intervient à un moment où la sécheresse et El Nio ont eu un impact négatif en Afrique australe, surtout pour les petits exploitants agricoles qui produisent l’essentiel de la production agricole de la région.

Le PAM a noté que la Zambie joue un rôle essentiel en ce sens, étant un des plus grands producteurs et exportateurs de maïs entre autres céréales de la région.

Mme Cousin a par la suite eu des entretiens avec le président zambien, Edgar Lungu, au palais présidentiel. Elle doit également s’entretenir avec le vice-président, Inonge Wina, les représentants des ministères clés du gouvernement et du secteur du développement et du monde des affaires.

Elle aura également des entretiens sur un certain nombre de nouvelles initiatives parmi lesquelles le soutien du PAM au programme national cantine scolaire à l’aide de céréales produites dans le pays dont le gouvernement a beaucoup renforcé les ressources cette année.

Son périple inclut une visite des projets du PAM dans la Southern Province, un projet qui a donné l’assurance d’aider à bâtir la résilience des petits producteurs agricoles exposés à la sécheresse.
