French President Francois Hollande has called for more climate finance from developed countries, alongside greater climate technology exchanges, during the Head of State’s visit to the Republic of Korea today.
Speaking at a roundtable on climate and green growth at Ehwa Women’s University, President Hollande stated that climate financing is key to the success of the COP 21 conference in Paris later this month. “The richest countries must do their part,” he said.
President Hollande was making his first state visit to Korea, arriving after two days of climate discussions in China. He noted Korea’s role in hosting the Green Climate Fund, identifying the country as a key ally in securing an ambitious agreement at the Paris climate talks.
France has already committed USD 1 billion to GCF, and is calling for efforts on climate finance to be stepped up as part of a global climate deal.
